about

Hugh MacRae Park is one of the oldest and best known parks in New Hanover County. The park was given to the County in the 1920's. Located near the intersection of South College Road and Oleander Drive, the 98-Acre park is well know for festivals and events such as the Piney Woods Festival, the Sounds of Summer Concert Series, the Annual Chili Cook-Off, and the Wing Fling. Facilities include lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, ball fields with seasonal concessions, an equestrian ring and a Pet Exercise Area. The Winter Park Optimist Club operates the County's oldest youth baseball and softball program at the park. There are six picnic shelters, picnic tables, grills and rest rooms located in the park as well. The garden and gazebo near the pond area are very popular places for weddings, especially in the Spring when the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom.
