If Andrea Marcovicci is the Queen of New York Cabaret, then Steve Ross is the Crown Prince-and has been designated as such by no less than The New York Times. Ross is the epitome of the dapper cabaret singer and pianist, and he has built his career paying homage to the holy trinity of old-time super-sophisticates-Cole Porter, Noel Coward, and Fred Astaire-although his most recent solo show is devoted to the songs of Stephen Sondheim. In white tie and tails, Ross is the quintessence of old-style urbanity, and as he traverses the Great American Songbook, it's easy to imagine that you've been transported back to a late 1930s RKO musical, lounging around in an Art Deco rooftop nightclub, with a glittering Manhattan skyline visible through the windows.
