Welcome to the website of the Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church. We are an Eastern Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, belonging to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate, with headquarters in New York City, and the Metropolis of San Francisco, headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos. We are located in Novato, California, approximately 30 miles north of San Francisco and welcome visitors of all faiths and backgrounds.
The Orthodox Church finds its origins in the New Testament, seeing itself as the organic continuation of the Apostolic Church of the first centuries, preserving, without adulteration, the original Christian Faith. It also holds that this Faith is maintained by a direct and permanent action of the Holy Spirit upon the entire body of the Church, into which each of its members enters through Baptism, through Chrismation (Confirmation), and through Communion of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
Over the centuries, the Church has taken root in many lands and cultures and is the second largest Christian Church in the world with approximately 300 million members worldwide. The Church is also well established in the US and is enjoying a rapid growth-rate here as thousands discover the "hidden pearl" that is the Orthodox Church.
