The Society of Design, a non-profit organization dedicated to multidisciplinary design education and community service, is pleased to announce the third presenter in its first annual speaker series. Internationally recognized best-selling author and renowned graphic designer Chip Kidd takes the stage.
A native of Reading, PA and a graduate of the graphic design program at Penn State University, Kidd is the author of the national bestselling novel, The Cheese Monkeys, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.
Recognized as an American master of contemporary book design, USA Today describes Kidd as “the closest thing to a rock star” in graphic design today.” His book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. His work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Eye, Print, Entertainment Weekly, The New Republic, Time, Graphis, New York, and ID magazines, and he is a regular contributor of visual commentary to the Op-Ed page of The New York Times.
According to Time Out New York, “The history of book design can be split into two eras: before graphic designer Chip Kidd and after.”
Kidd is the editor-at-large for Pantheon and has written about design and popular culture for McSweeney's, Vogue, Details, 2wice, and many others. He is also the lead vocalist, percussionist, lyricist, and co-songwriter in artbreak, a new band described as "The New Pornographers meet The Cars" (Unbeige).
