About the Performing Artists:
Barbara Cadranel, Harpsichordist
Virtuosity. Originality. Passion. These are just a few of the superlatives that have been used to describe the noted American harpsichordist Barbara Cadranel. “The New York Times” wrote that her performances were “mingled with majesty and introspection,” and WKCR-FM (Columbia Universi ty, NYC) considered her playing to be “Extra-terrestrial.” The legendary harpsichordist Fernando Valenti called her “the most gifted of the younger generation of American harpsichordists.”
Ms. Cadranel has played all the major halls in New York City including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher, Merkin Hall and performed throughout the United States, Europe, and South America along with giving master classes and making many radio and TV appearances. She starred in "The Scarlatti Birth day Party," the first classical music video in the "rock" style. Wherever she appears, Cadranel generates a special electricity. During her tour in São Paulo, Brazil (when she introduced her “Scarlatti by the Yard” concert programs and played the Bach D Minor Concerto six nights in a row), “The Metropolis” in Sao Paulo responded by saying she was “...not a stuffed shirt like the others, [but a] master artist.”
Miss Cadranel made her Lincoln Center concerto debut in the “Basically Bach Festival” at Avery Fisher Hall and followed it with a solo recital debut in Merkin Concert Hall. To celebrate the tercentennial of Bach, Scarlatti, and Handel, she played another debut at Carnegie Recital Hall, She has also appeared and taught at the “International Music Festival” in Pollensa (Mallorca Spain), the “Festival Manuel de Falla” in Granada, “Musica en Compostela,” and “The First Baroque Music Festival” in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Contemporary harpsichord music is one of Ms. Cadranel’s specialties and passions, and she has been a leader in this field. Cadranel has commissioned a number of new works, regularly includes this repertoire in her recital programs, and often uses multimedia presentations to further enhance her performances.
Ms. Cadranel directed “The Los Angeles International Harpsichord Festival” which received rave reviews from “The Los Angeles Times.” She served as founder and director of The Baroque Music Center and Library in New York City. After serving as director of harpsichord performance at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, Ms Cadranel settled in as a Stratford, CT resident and is currently in the process of editing Fernando Valenti’s last book, "The Scarlatti Handbook,” which he dedicated to her. She has recently done concert tours to South America and Europe.

MARK Kroll, Harpsichordist
Mark Kroll has maintained an equal balance between performing, teaching and scholarship throughout his career. As a harpsichordist, he recently returned from three international tours: Prague, where he was featured soloist at the Prague Spring Festival and President of the Jury or the Prague International Harpsichord Competition; Krakow and Katowice, Poland for concerts and master classes; appearances at the annual Hummel Festival in Bordeaux; and lecture-recitals on the music of F. Couperin at McGill University of Montreal and the International Baroque Conference at the Unive rsity of Southampton, England. This season will find him in Thailand and China.
Kroll has published three books, numerous articles and editions of the music of Hummel, Francesco Scarlatti and Charles Avison. He is currently writing a biography of Ignaz Moscheles, r ecently revised the “Hummel” article for the New Grove Dictionary of Music, and is editing Francesco Geminiani’s opus 4 sonatas and concerti for the complete edition of his works. Kroll’s most recent recording, Henri Dutilleux’s Les Citations with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, was nominated for a Grammy award this year.
As a teacher, Kroll has given master classes throughout North and South America and Europe, and is professor emeritus at Boston University, where he served as chair of the Department of Historical Performance for 25 years.
MARC Zollinger, Composer & GUITARIST
Born April 2, 1990, in São Paulo, Brazil, Marc discovered a passion for music at an early age, beginning guitar lessons when 6 years old. At the age of eight he moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he developed an interest for jazz. He joined his High School Jazz band and won the “Best Soloist Award” in the 2008 “Irvine Jazz Festival.”
He also developed a proficiency in classical guitar, studying with Matthew Grei f (of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), before moving to Boston to further pursue his musical studies at Berklee College of Music.
He has studied composition with Tibor Pusztai and guitar with Jon Damian. Marc’s main musical influences come from avant-garde jazz, classical, and Brazilian music, and the intersections of “high” and “low” culture.
