Only Emotion Endures: Reading Classic American Poems
How and why are we so moved— whether to laughter, tears, or anger— by the rhythms, images, and voices of poetry? This course explores classics of 20th-century American poetry by Ezra Pound, Gwendolyn Brooks, Robert Hayden, Elizabeth Bishop and others. This class considers the unique and rich ways in which poems use language to express feelings of love and loss, and the audible pleasures provided by the recitation of poetry.
