Sunfest - Kid Rock, Cake, Dick Dale, Surfer Blood and Vegabonds

Wednesday, Apr 30 5:00p
West Palm Beach West Palm Beach, FL

Rock N Roll Jesus is Kid Rock's most honest, eclectic, and soulful record to date. It's his State of the Union address, a deeply personal statement that looks at racism in America, empathizes with soldiers in Iraq (Rock visited the troops last Christmas) and also lays bare his tormented relationship with Pam Anderson. During their breakup, Rock assumed a low profile, focusing on his music for the first time in years.
Initially, he teamed up with producer Rick Rubin, who gave him a much-needed jolt

Universally acknowledged as the original king of surf guitar, Dick Dale made a splash with the instrumental hit "Misirlou" in the early 1960s, establishing the template for surf music. In addition to his musical innovations, Dale was responsible for advances in sound technology, working closely with the likes of Leo Fender on new developments in guitars, amplifiers, and reverb units....

Despite his urban rap lyrics, he grew up in a suburban, lakefront home, with chores that included picking apples from the family orchard and feeding horses. Started out as a DJ at parties and clubs in and around Detroit....

Though South Florida doesn't have the tides to shoot the curl, West Palm Beach's Surfer Blood fuse sunny surf rock charm with indie rock cool. Guitarist/vocalist John Paul Pitts and drummer Tyler Schwarz had known each other since high school; they started playing together and connected with guitarist Thomas Fekete, bassist Brian Black, and percussionist Marcos Marchesani at an Ultra Music Festival after-party, officially becoming Surfer Blood in spring 2009....

Potato Chip for the Brain...

Cake is what happens when a no talent act gets absorbed into the mindless droves of pot smoking teenagers whose aural depth extends only one knuckle deep in their ear canal... Cake's bland slow monotonal drone appeals to the masses due to its sheer simplicity.

I hear Cake's music and take note its popularity, I cringe a little knowing that the cult that fosters their existence is large enough to sustain them.

If singing about nothing is the new wave of music, we're doomed. I find more meaning in nursery rhymes...
Then again, maybe I just don't "get it". It's all subjective right? Maybe I just don't smoke my body weight in miscellaneous drugs and replace my liquid content with an equal amount of alcohol to "get it"...

Well my little mindless Cakeheads, enjoy filling the pockets of those record companies! It's what you're there for!
