Geared toward Washington D.C.’s young and emerging artists, the conference will focus on various topics that will enhance their portfolio and business practices. Erik Moe has been working with social media and web strategy for artists, non-profits and social impact groups since 2008. In 2013 he started Erik Moe Creative to expand his reach and focus on building the arts and creative communities. This session will give artists some insight into how to use their websites and social media effectively to reach their audience. He will focus on basic social media skills and tools and how to build a website to reach it’s maximum potential.
Legal Art Practices – Carl Bedell, Esq.
Carl Bedell recently left corporate America to pursue a more fulfilling venture in law. He is very connected to further the arts in DC with affiliations to the Corcoran and Phillips Collection. In this session he will explore the basics on starting an art business and the in and outs of trademark and copyright of your artwork.
Portfolio and Gallery Submissions – Allison Nance, Director of Hillyer Art Space
Allison Nance has served as the gallery director for the Target Gallery and now for Hillyer Art Space. As such she has seen her fair share of exhibition submissions. Her session will focus on the dos and don’ts of portfolios, proposals, and how to create a winning submission.
Fellowships – Angie Goerner, Hamiltonian Development Director
Angie Goerner is the development director for the Hamiltonian Gallery. As such, she has worked with the artist fellowship. Her session will focus on applying to fellowships, what one can expect from a fellowship and how various fellowships, including the Hamiltonian, can further an artists career.
Marketing/PR – Elizabeth Carberry, Founder of ArtSee
Want to learn a few tips and tricks of marketing yourself as an artist? This workshop will go over a few great marketing techniques for any artists. In today's competitive market, having these tools will help to bring attention to any upcoming show, body of work or project. We will discuss, press, advertising, social media and online marketing. Lead by ArtSee founder, Elizabeth Grazioli, this workshop is for working artists looking to learn how to market themselves in the metro area.
The workshops will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 PM on Thursday October 23, 2014 followed by a networking reception from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the WeWork Wonderbread Factory (641 S St NW, Washington, DC 20001). The networking happy hour will be sponsored by, CultureScene.
