The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea
Novelist Yukio Mishima’s work has all too often been analyzed in light of his extreme political views, complex sexual identity, and ritual suicide. By changing the setting to an English seaside village and emphasizing its Freudian overtones, Lewis John Carlino’s adaptation of Mishima’s 1964 novel proves that the raw material is disturbing enough in its own right.
