based around the distinctive 808 drum patterns of southern hip-hop, trapstyle (or simply “trap music”) takes it’s name from a term originating on rapper t.i.’s classic trap muzik album. the addition of synthesizer elements borrowed from several electronic genres make trap music truly a musical style of an internet generation notorious for ignoring traditional boundaries and rules. certified trap gets its name from the popular  clubtapes.com  online documentary that exposed the genre to legions of new fans.
dj sliink, a champion of jersey club music and one of fader magazine’s twelve to watch in 2013, asserted his trap dominance with “test me” a collaboration with flosstradamus and continued by prolifically releasing remixes throughout last year. kenny beats and ryan marks, collectively known as loudpvck, built an impressive social media following behind the viral strength of their re-up and self-titled debut mixtapes. dirty south joe’s seminal trap mixes entrapment and dingoes trapped my baby were an essential co-sign for the fledgling genre from an og in the game. after producing massive hits for the likes of ludacris, tyga, and travis porter, as well as their genre-bending mixtape transformers in the hood, fki entered the trap game by executive producing iggy azalea’s groundbreaking trapgold mixtape alongside diplo.
