Argentina Copello Dudley LectureJohn Singer Sargent had a love affair with Venice. Seeking inspiration from the beautiful vistas and canals, Sargent captured the essence of this city in what is arguably some of his most evocative and masterful work. On this rare and illuminating evening, Warren Adelson, internationally recognized Sargent authority and founder of Adelson Galleries, delves into Sargent's Venice, sharing the artist's unique experiences in the city. Adelson initiated scholarship on the John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonné in 1980 in partnership with the artist's great-nephew, Richard Ormond. Mr. Adelson is among the noted Sargent scholars who authored Sargent's Venice (Yale University Press, 1/2007), which accompanies an extraordinary international exhibition of the same title. The Argentina Copello Dudley Memorial Lecture, established in 1984, supported by the Dudley Endowment Fund, presents distinguished speakers who have contributed significantly to our understanding of the arts.
