Vredenburg

Vredenburg - Music Centre Vredenburg Utrecht in full - is named after the spot where the building stands: Vredenburg Square. 'Vredenborch' is the name of the castle that was built here in the sixteenth century and was destroyed later in the same century. For a long time Vredenburg Square was the seat of Utrecht's law courts. From 1921 to 1969 it was dominated by the Exhibition Centre. And it is still Utrecht's market square.
