I was hoping to be amazed, but I wasn't. The most significant part of the book wasn't as emotional or impressive in the movie. I cried when I read the book, but I didn't feel a thing when I watched the movie.
Most of the movie is spent covering the love triangles/relationships so I thought the ending attempted to cover the real purpose of the movie and everything seemed rushed.
Oh well, the next and last two movies should be epic.
The remodeling of this venue is amazing. The restaurant looks like a dark Japanese izakaya that you'd find in one of those many alleys. The door is also a mystery, you'll find it behind the cloth banner - there is no handle, just push your way in.
When you are inside, the it's just as dark as the outside. All of the focus is on the chefs and your food. The winter menu consists of mainly of snapper fish, which is delicious!
The restaurant is mainly a bar area. There's a very small seating area for maybe 10 people, but the rest is a bar setting where you can watch the father-son duo chefs Suzukis perpare some of the most beautiful looking foods.
The menu is split into cold dishes and hot dishes. Hot dishes include hot pots and the featured snapper cooked in a ton of different ways (grilled, in soup, etc).
The things I didn't like about this place is that the dishes are very pricey considering the size. A crab and cucumber salad was $13 that took about 5 bites to finish and the rest of the dishes are small too. I definitely can't eat here every weekend! Also, there were no carb dishes, which is a problem when you are eating with someone who needs a balanced diet for medical reasons.
My friend and I ordered a crab salad, kobe beef, snapper grilled in soy/miso in a sake paper wrap, and a snapper in soup. Deliciously small bites which costed us a total of $67 (tip not included). We still had pently of room left in our stomach to go across the street and get our crab fill on Cask's flat bread.
There's always something interesting to buy at the toy show. There are a lot of classic toys and collectibles. I'm not sure if the early bird ticket is worth it, unless if you're looking for a hard to find item.
