WARNING: This review contains spoilers.
I am not one who typically leaves bad reviews for movies and such, but I have been a trekkie for 16 years, watching every episode of every Star Trek TV series along with all of the movies, and this movie totally disregards all Star Trek continuity.
Spoilers ahead...
First of all, Vulcan gets destroyed. Come on! Throughout all of the TV series Vulcan has been in existence, so now all of Star Trek's future that has been written is now done away with. And Spock's mother gets killed. She was on the original series and on Star Trek IV as well, but now she has never existed. And what's up with this relationship between Spock and Uhura? And what's up with Spock being so emotional?
I understand all the stuff about alternate timelines and all that, but all of the TV series and movies have gone through such great efforts to preserve the Star Trek timeline and now it has been completely disregarded. In my opinion, this movie is not Star Trek canon, so I'll just stick to watching all of the DVDs I have. I don't plan on seeing anymore Star Trek movies if they keep making this junk. This was nothing but nonintellectual story telling and overblown special effects. I'm surprised Leonard Nimoy agreed to appear in this farce. He must have needed the money. I wish now they would have given the Star Trek franchise a respectable ending, but since everyone is enjoying this movie so much, they'll undoubtedly keep making more movies. This is not Gene Roddenberry's vision.
