Yes, it's a Roland Emmerich film, so the plot is flimsy, the scientific "rationale" ridiculous, and the acting cheesy. At the same time, it's kind of fun. The effects are frankly rather hair-raising at times, and probably worth the cost of admission (if you go to a matinee). It's quite long, though. I wouldn't hork down a Big Gulp before going to the theater.
Absolutely love this restaurant. Went there for the first time last night for a birthday dinner and plan to go back as often as I can. The servings are extremely generous and extremely tasty. I recommend the Meat Combination if you're new to Ethiopian food, and come hungry.
The only downside is that there isn't a lot of seating. One of the two main dining areas is devoted to a more traditional family serving style, but you can also sit at regular Western-style tables. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was terrific.
Do not take the kids.
Repeat. DO NOT TAKE THE KIDS.
This is a fairly grim science fiction movie, and it deals with some very serious issues. That being said, if you're interested in seeing a brutally frank movie that explores some of humanity's least savory characteristics in a serious way, this is the movie for you.
The main character, Wikas van der Meerwe, is an anti-hero, which is not to some people's taste. If you're looking for a simple-minded good guys vs. bad guys shoot 'em up, move on. It has moments of extreme violence and cruelty, and is not for the weak of stomach. I found it thought provoking and fascinating from beginning to end.
It's also kind of miraculous how good the special effects are, in spite of the film's relatively tiny budget. I'm definitely going to see it again.
