I saw this with some friends at a birthday party, and it was pretty decent. It was certainly entertaining, although I'm told not as good as the various Harry Potter movies.
I'd say if you've got some 12 year olds and some time to kill, this is a good way to spend a couple hours. There's no foul language, no sex, and the only real violence is implied. And involves a giant star-nosed mole.
I found the plot pretty interesting, although it (purposely) lacks background. This is the first in a trilogy (based off kids books, of course), so presumably the next two movies will explain this Disaster thing.
Action, frustrated love, vengeance, and the world's best disappearing-pencil trick.
That's right, this movie has it all.
I'm extremely happy that they're sticking with the gritty, dark, dare I say it realistic format for the new Batman movies. I was getting really tired of superheroes made of neon, and the ridiculous batman "sculpted ab-shaped body armor" batman of the nineties. This has fewer ridiculous contraptions, and thus seems very real to me - it could (maybe) happen. And that just makes the whole experience that much better.
Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely flawless. The Joker in this movie is less goofy-ha ha; he's a thoroughly sadistic, chaotic-neutral genius. He's consistently one step ahead of everyone else, which helps to string along the plot for a long long time. Not that it ever felt strung along - this is an excellent movie that keeps you interested to the end.
Hell, I've got a free pass to a theatre. I'm thinking of seeing it again in the the theater, just cause most TVs won't do it justice.
And apparently it was filmed in IMAX, so that version of it is probably worth checking out...
Turns out, he was his father the whole damn time.
This is a pretty good movie, plenty of action, neat gizmos, decent fight scenes, etc.
My only problem was that the whole movie seemed like "Michael Scott, Secret Agent." I think I've just been watching The Office too much lately.
Anyway, it's definitely worth seeing. Give it a go if you've got a free night.
I have to say I was impressed. This place gets packed by 10 or 10:30, and it's huge! The patio area is great for peoplewatching (drunk), and for the fresh air (while drinking!) it provides.
I don't really remember any details due to the alcohol, but this place is worth stopping by.
STP was on my list of "Bands I Really Should Have Listened To In High School" in college. It's great music, and the one time I've seen them live I was blown away. If they're coming through, then for gods' sakes buy some tickets cause it's gonna be awesome!
and I try to come here whenever I'm in NYC. The food's a little expensive, but for what you get it's an excellent deal - a giant plate of rice and a pot full of whatever you've ordered.
I usually go for the shrimp in the green garlic sauce, but the spicy garlic is also great, as is everything else.
Try the sangria!
then you fail at life.
Don't mistake this place for a restaurant, cause it's not - this is a hole in the wall. A hole full of AWESOME PIZZA.
You know it's new york pizza if you can fold it in half and it doesn't collapse. I've not found another place this good, too bad they're so far from my house or I'd live off this stuff.
I went here for breakfast on the way to the airport and was actually pretty amazed by the quick service. The food was also very good, they've got all the standard diner foods but tastier!
I've only been climbing seriously for a year, but there's always something challenging here. The route setting is top notch, and plentiful - with 120 climbs marked at the moment, I'm never going to get through them. Climbs are generally rated slightly lower than they are, but that just means you learn to climb better sooner.
Also, Wednesday night is Beer Night! Strictly for medical reasons of course - after two hours of climbing, a cold pint does wonders for your tired hands...
It is full of authenticness and win. And beer! Seriously, if you're a beer enthusiast, this is the place for you. They've got the standard irish beers, standard crappy american beers, and a variety of microbrews. The food is pretty good too.
I haven't been there too often for music, but they've got it now and then, and that can't hurt.
I ate dinner here with a friend of mine and it was great! A lot of the food comes on skewers, and you can order them a la carte or in combos with rice and a side. I got the mint-cumin chicken, and it was great.
The ambiance in the place is excellent, too. The kitchen is open so you can see what's going on, the lighting is subdued, but not enough that you can't see. All around I was very impressed.
I've not seen these guys live, but I hear they're pretty good. I've been listening to them a bit on internet radio and I'm gonna catch them next time they come around.
Good, solid rockness.
Everybody must see Cirque du Soleil at least once in their lifetime. The extravagant costumes, seemingly impossible acrobatics, and music all combine into an experience that can't be expressed in words. See it. You won't be disappointed.
This is a wonderful restaurant. Tapas are a fun way to eat because they force you to explore new flavors and combinations you wouldn't have thought to try. They also have a delightful outdoor area for when the weather's nice.
I did this comp last year. The climbs were good (almost 100 of them) and the after party was off the hook!
...or as the Chinese say, "ping-pong"...
I suspect that this movie evolved around the same thread as Snakes On A Plane, but with Chhristopher Walken as the centerpiece Awesome Celebrity instead of the Samuel L. Jackson. While Mr. Walken is awesome, I think he wasn't used to his full potential in this movie.
That being said, this is a pretty good comedy. It's got the whole quest motif, lots of references to martial arts movies, mix in some James Bond, and of course romantic tension. Sorta. Ish.
Some of the ping-pong scenes reminded me of 300. There's a lot of bullet-time. It's pretty sweet.
So yeah. If you love ping pong, or Christopher Walken, watch this movie. Or obscure tournements. Or Karate Kid.
If not, watch it anyway. It's Christopher Freaking Walken!
Death at a funeral is a very funny movie. The entire plot centers on a funeral where every guest has something on their mind other than the deceased. In short, it's a bunch of British people going through the motions of polite society, which is always funny.
Throw in a mis-labled bottle full of hard drugs and a gay midget, and you've got one hilarious movie.
Watch it. You'll be laughing in no time.
This movie has it all! Drinking, fighting, awkward sex, dramatic plot twists, and - my personal favorite - bored cops! If you liked Super Troopers, this movie is worth it just to see what happens to McLovin.
Michael Cera draws heavily on his experience in the utterly amazing TV series Arrested Development, and it is awesome. The writing is awesome. So is the soundtrack. Heavy on the funk, which is awesome. Basically, if you like awesome, watch this movie.
(Because it's awesome)
This place has everything you need, and it's covered in British Stuff! Cheers!
One man. 12 instruments. Any kind of music he feels like.
