Students are Placed in Levels Based
upon Skill Level and Not Age
Everyone learns at a different pace and the key is to be
able to enjoy the journey of learning how to dance. Students
learn much more quickly when they are happy and comfortable
with the level of dance vocabulary. Without a full understanding
of dance vocabulary, basic coordination, and aesthetic awareness,
students will fall behind and become increasingly frustrated. It is
in the best interest of the student to be grouped according to
skill level rather than by age. To ensure each student is placed
in the proper level, an evaluation class or private lesson is
scheduled with a member of PDC’s teaching staff. A syllabus for
all levels in each discipline (Ballet, Modern, Tap and Jazz) is
created for a unified set of expectations for the students and
instructors.. After the Spring Performance in May each student
receives a written evaluation by their teacher(s). The evaluations
outline the student’s accomplishments as well as areas of needed
improvement. On the report, class and level recommendations
for the summer program and following season are noted.
