The SF Pride parade is always an exciting and eye-opening event for both gays and straights. This year it feels even more important for people to get out and show their support for the Queer community, especially in the face of Prop 8 and the battle for marriage equality.
The parade itself lasts for several hours as hundreds of floats, bands and groups march down Market Street to the cheers of thousands of attendees. The parade, and party that follows at the Civic Center are FREE and there is something for everyone, literally.
The parade has been family friendly for the most part, but the party at the Civic Center can get a little raunchy. So you may want to consider whether it feels appropriate for your younger kids.
We heard about Olivia's from neighbors who go there regularly for weekend breakfast. We're always looking for kid friendly places near our home, with good food and reasonable prices.
I enjoyed the Chilaquiles breakfast with grilled chicken. Yummy! The tomatillo sauce was outstanding -- spicy but not too hot. Great balance with the cheese and refried beans.
Very good coffee, and the waiter/owner never let our cups grow cold.
My daughter ordered waffles with bacon on the side, and the waffle was fluffy and crispy and hot. The bacon was done perfectly, not too crunchy, but well done.
I recommend Olivia's especially if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a good meal and a friendly atmosphere.
What a delightful surprise! This rendition of Alice in Wonderland is performed by an enthusiastic troop of high school students called the Move-About Theatre Company. The play begins with the first scene at the Shakespeare Garden (next to the Academy of Science bldg) and then literally takes off as the audience follows Alice and the white rabbit through the tunnel. The kids found the whole "moving theatre" concept a blast, and soon all the adults were running and skipping from scene to scene as well.
Especially good performances from the mad hatter/griffon, the rabbit, and tweedle dee and tweedle dum. The script is kid friendly, but full of nuanced lines that the adults will appreciate even more.
Tonight is the last performance of Alice, but I'll be looking for the next performance of the Move-About Theatre company!
