but one that i don't mind listening to.
Who knew Montreal had it in 'em? From five-time turntablism world champion to DJ for Kanye West, and he's just getting started...
It only took 1 visit - yes 1 visit - and I was instantly hooked. I kid you not. I keep asking myself how I could have gone so long without knowing about Gombei...but the important thing is I know about it now...and now so do you!
A true hidden gem in San Jose's Japantown. Don't come here looking for sushi; that's not what this place is all about. Come here for traditional and authentic homestyle Japanese meals. I'm talking beef yukinake, ton katsu, udon bowls, croquettes, and the tofu....OH the tofu! It's straight from next door (San Jose Tofu Company) and the freshest, tastiest tofu you'll find in all of the South Bay.
So next time you find yourself in San Jose, give it a try...you can thank me later!
This is the place to go if you are craving fresh sushi or noodle bowls in San Jose. Located in the heart of Japantown, they serve up everything from traditional Japanese fare to more modern fusion-type dishes. Their sukiyake is among the best I've ever eaten. All their tofu comes from across the street (San Jose Tofu Company) and I can only describe the experience as eating little nuggets of goodness that fell from heaven. Dinner prices are a bit high, but you're essentially paying for the high quality ingredients. You can get a pretty good deal during lunch, however, when most dishes are half off.
Then you need to eat here! You will find the best homemade Korean food in all of Pittsburgh. This is a family-owned joint...picture a little old Korean lady in the back cooking up traditional and authentic Korean dishes. YUM! Service is friendly and fast. Prices are a steal. I stick to oldies but goodies at this place - japchae and bibimbap - essentially Korean comfort food.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Pittsburgh. Fresh delicious fish, huge portions and fantastic service. What more could you want?
All of their fish is fresh so the menu changes daily. If you're in the mood for something different, try their jumbo lump meat crab cakes - they are to-die-for! I've never left this place unsatisfied.
This is probably my favorite french-vietnamese restaurant in the city. You can always count on two things - the ingredients will be fresh and the service will be spot on. Their best dishes include the lamb, lobster and whatever the fresh fish of the day is. I'm also a big fan of their noodle dishes.
Collabs and contributors include David Bowie, Nick Zinner (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Katrina Ford (of Celebration) and the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra.
If you haven't yet heard their 2006 album 'Return to Cookie Mountain' you're missing out...
The perfect place for a healthy yet delicious breakfast. Decor and atmosphere make you feel like you're eating in homestyle kitchen. My favorites include their specialty omelets, famous blueberry coffeecake and orange-cinnamon spiced tea.
Decent and overall authentic Greek food, but definitely overpriced for the portion sizes. The atmosphere is quaint and comfortable, and they have a lovely garden on the patio for outdoor dining. Try their famous kalamata olive-based dipping sauce/spread which is great on just about everything -- from their pita bread to their fries to their kabobs.
Standard steakhouse style food at eye-opening prices. Nothing here on the menu that you won't find anywhere else. Atmosphere is sophisticated (although borderline pretentious) and the crowd is usually made up of business executive types.
Absolutely the best naan, chicken tikka masala, dosas and idli sambar that I've eaten in the Bay Area to date. The ambiance and decor leave something to be desired but the food more than makes up for it. Swagat has a few locations (I've eaten at all of them) but the Abel Street location in Milpitas has the best food in terms of quality and consistency.
This is by far the best authentic Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. Delicious, authentic, homemade food for cheap prices. Definitely try the steamed buns (filled with soup!), scallion pancakes, cold & hot noodles and the pork with rice dishes. This place cannot be beat. Only downside is the place is tiny (approx 8-10 tables) but very popular so you'll most likely be waiting in line to get a table. But it's absolutely worth the wait. They are open daily for lunch but only serve dinner on Wednesday's.
This is an absolute must-eat when you find yourself in NYC. It's definitely one of the best burger places I've ever eaten at in my life (and I've eaten a lot of burgers!) Their bacon cheeseburgers are incredible and the beer selection is superb. Atmosphere is casual and be ready for lots of noise, people and fun if you go on a Friday or Saturday night when the Yankees are playing.
