Unless you have to go to this club, I'd say skip it. There's plenty of places to have a good time, and this one doesn't deserve your business. The staff acts as if they'd prefer only one ethnicity to populate their club, and everyone else will be treated like criminals. (The patrons of the club were very friendly and welcoming, just not the staff)
I went for a benefit show. The door staff were all so rude, it was clear something wasn't right. Why would a club treat their patrons so badly when they're in business to make money from them?
They couldn't read their guest list, and there was some confusion on my part if we could still pay the lower price as we perform with the dance company that was performing. Once I heard our group begin their performance, I didn't care if we were on the list or not, and so told the ticket seller to just take our money, forget about the list, and just get us in. He kept saying he'd go get someone from the group performing, which would be impossible, as they were already on stage. I literally was begging him to just take our money, and finally convinced him to proceed, after he sat there ignoring me for some time. Then he said the price was $20, which was $5 more than the door price advertised on all the fliers; was posted as $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Because the show had already started, we agreed to pay it. Then we were told they don't take credit cards. When we finally found enough cash, they deliberately took another 5 min. to let us go to the door.
We missed most of the show, but had arrived in time to only miss the first min. of it, as we heard them just starting as we were waiting at the box office.
The door security kept me for another 4 min. He kept my friend for 3 min. He was openly rude and condescending as he searched us. He made me open my glasses case and went through every item in my purse, after he heard we were trying to catch the show that had already started. I'm a 5'2" school teacher and a professional folkloric dancer. No one on this Earth sees me as a threat, because clearly, I'm not.
The staff inside came up and man handled my teacher because we were standing, along with four other people, on the stairs watching the show. (Nothing was said to the other people on the stairs, just us.) My teacher was so shocked, as he's the friendliest person, and everyone responds warmly to his big smile. After we moved, the security came up and grabbed him again, this time for no reason, and started physically moving him in a random direction. I had to pull him physically away from the security and rushed him towards the stage. Luckily, some of the performers had come off and were all hugging him, so the security left him alone for the moment. Later, they stationed 2 security just standing near us as we danced throughout the night. It was so inappropriate, and suspicious that they stationed security next to the only people in the club that were not E. Indian, even though several had just been performing in their club.
Throughout the night, I started to suspect maybe Pure's staff doesn't treat all their patrons this way. It seemed the most likely reason we were singled out, and different staff in different areas of the club had treated us so rudely, was because the staff at Pure may be racist. It didn't make sense that they would stay in business if they treated all their patrons this way. My teacher is an international dance master from the Caribbean, who is, to a racist, just a large black man. It wouldn't have occurred to me, as I've grown up here in Silicon Valley, the least racist place on the planet. Thinking it all through later, it did seem revealing that the only non-Indian people were the only ones being treated badly by the Pure staff.
This Caribbean man is the friendliest person ever, and even while they were man handling him, he just said, "Why? I did pay to get in," and then said nothing. Obviously he was not a threat and the performers were greeting him with hugs.
I will say the inside of the club looked nice, and all of the patrons were really friendly towards us, even though we were the only non-Indian people in the club. The patrons were all smiles, and dancing with us, so it does draw a nice crowd. However, it's not worth getting past the employees and their rudeness to have fun with the welcoming patrons.
Obviously the owner has no idea what's happening and that his staff has gone on a power trip with their miniscule amount of authority, OR, the owners are well aware, and are training their staff to be rude and attacking of non-Indian patrons.
Disgusting, this IS Silicon Valley, and IS the least racist place on Earth, just avoid Pure Lounge.
I left wondering if "Pure" is a reference to a preference that just one race be welcomed by this club?
