Sense Of Wonder Walk: Hot Chocolate Hike

There's a lot going on in the natural world in winter, so bundle up the family and join us for one or more of these explorations. Take home a ready-to-eat bird treat and some gourmet recipes.Hot Chocolate Hike: February 3Come explore the woodlands, wetlands, and fields along the sanctuary trails. Learn how to identify tracks in the snow and use your detective skills to observe nibbled twigs and nuts, and scat. On our return, we will warm up with a delicious cup of hot chocolate.Who's Awakening? Who's Returning? March 24Celebrate the arrival of spring with a hike to Waterfowl Pond. Along the way, we'll look for ducks and red-winged blackbirds in the wetlands, listen for the call of the phoebe, and search for signs that the animals that slept away the winter are emerging and those that went south are returning.The Squishiness of Things: April 28Even as its soft rotting wood becomes a forest recycling center, a dead log is still home to many plants and animals. We'll meet fabulous fungi, slime molds, squishy earthworms, slimy slugs, salamanders, and much more.
