Amahl and the Night Visitors presented by Riverside Lyric Opera

OPERA is returning to Temecula! It's been several years since Inland Valley Opera presented its final opera production at Old Town Temecula Community Theater and folks are anxious for the return of this most cherished art form! Riverside Lyric Opera as several operas slated in Temecula for its 2013-14 season. http://www.RiversideLyricOpera.org

Riverside Lyric Opera presents "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on Dec. 28th at 2 pm and 7 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 44651 Avenida de Missiones, Temecula.

This delightful holiday production is a favorite around Christmas-time as the story unfolds about a crippled shepherd boy (Amahl) and his mother who are visited by the three Wise Men on their way to see baby Jesus.

The all-star cast features some stellar vocal talent with Luke Larson as Amahl and Cynthia Leigh as the Mother.

Ms. Leigh, who is noted for her control, has the capacity to sing powerfully in one moment and can transcend to an almost invisible wisp of sound in the next. Always the consummate actress she magically captures the passion and essence of an impoverished and nervous mother. Cynthia appears with many noted opera companies and symphonies and recently sang the role of Leonora in il Trovatore with the LA Met Opera.

Luke Larson can be heard in various productions in the Los Angeles area and sings with the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. The character of Amahl is inquisitive and eager and offers many challenges to his Mother, for he loves to spin tales.

The three kings are played by a trio of seasoned opera singers: Terry Welborn as King Balthazer, Mario Rios as King Kaspar and John Hansen as King Melchior.

Mr. Welborn has sung leading roles with many Southern California opera companies with a most recent outstanding review for his role of Tonio in Pagliacci. "it was Terry James Welborn as the lovestruck then vengeful Tonio who stole the show" - Lauris' List.

Mario Rios and John Hansen both perform regularly with various opera companies and are strong leads who possess the skill of creating great character portrayals. James Cameron as the Page is a regular with RLO and also performs in their Cotton Club productions.

The Riverside Lyric Opera Orchestra, conducted by Dr.Stephen Tucker from U.C. Irvine is comprised of some of the area's finest musicians, providing live music for the production which also includes an additional cast of shepherds as the chorus.

Bring the whole family to this traditional holiday show. "Amahl" is a light opera in English that delivers a touching message for the season. The story line is magical and the music is charmingly delightful.
