Art Reception for Ruthmarie Hicks, Photographer

Please join us at W@tercooler on Friday, March 15, 7-9pm for an Artist Reception for area photographer RuthMarie Hicks . Ruthmarie Hicks got her introduction to photography in science labs late 90s early 2000s when she was assigned to take photos of cells tagged with fluorescent markers. As a newly licensed real estate agent, Ruthmarie was not happy with the quality of the photography that appeared on the MLS. As a result she found herself taking pictures once again. New venue. New subject matte… Show more r. The pictures Ruthmarie took were so well received that she decided to expand her subject matter to include neighborhoods, parks, and scenic vistas. Using digital technology with low light and no flash has become her signature style.Â
Artist Statement "What I try to to do is show the beauty of everyday scenes that we often take for granted. The Hudson Valley is a beautiful place to live, but we are so busy going about our daily business we that seldom stop to appreciate our truly wonderful surroundings. We miss special moments because we are too busy trying to cross another item off our "to do list". Whether in black and white or vivid color, I try to capture the vibrance of a single moment and freeze it in time. In doing so, I hope that I help people to see the world around them in a new light. Maybe someone will pause in their busy day when they see a wonderful cloud formation or a particularly beautiful sunset or a vibrant street scene - and appreciate the moment for what it is. Good local photography should do more than provide nice pictures of familiar places. It should help us to see our everyday world with new eyes and give us a better perspective and appreciation of the place we call home."
