The War of 1812 in the Pacific Northwest
Historian and author John C. Jackson, will speak on the usually overlooked events in our area during the War of 1812. Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company felt so threatened by the prospect of being captured as a prize of war, that Astor's agents sold it to the North West Company of Montreal. This made French the operative language in this region for more than 30 years. The return of Astoria to the USA makes an amusing political tale. This class is offered by Learning Is ForEver.
