Genetic Engineering 101

Kyle Taylor, PhD, Senior Scientist, BioCurious will take us through a thorough hands-on lab where we will:
Engineer the genome of a bacteria, E. coli, by splicing in an engineered protein from a jellyfish, Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), that glows under a special light
Use engineered E. coli as biosensors
Learn the actual hands-on lab techniques to make this happen.
Discuss applications and uses of GFP, cell- & bio-printers, uses of synthetic biology for biosensors

Class size is limited so you get plenty of hands on assistance. Cost is $250 a person. (If anyone has an issue where this would keep them from coming, please contact me directly.) Fee goes toward class materials, instructor, and supporting the educational and entrepreneurial mission at BioCurious.
Transportation: We'll run a couple of cars from the front of the Singularity U classroom, NASA Building 583c, leaving at 8:30 am Sharp. If you have access to a car, please meet us in front of 583c and bring people with you.
Dress code: Closed toes shoes and full length pants are suggested for working in the lab, but not required .
