The Wellington Disaster & Iron Goat Trail
Join train history enthusiast Jim Martine for a slide show and discussion on the Wellington Disaster of the Great Northern Rail Line & the Iron Goat Trail. In February 1910, the Cascades were hit by ferocious storms that dropped as much as a foot of snow per hour for days. Two trains that had been trapped by snow near the Stevens Pass summit for a week were swept off their tracks by a tremendous avalanche early in the morning on March 1, in one of the worst railroad accidents in U.S. history.
