Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s Patrick Nowakowski will update us on the Silver Line Metro rail extension to Dulles airport, phases 1 and 2. Program topics include:
Programming and design for Metro stations and support buildings
Regional transportation improvements resulting from Silver Line
Differences in Codes between transit and other facilities
How feedback from existing Metro station users informed the design of Silver Line stations

Mr. Nowakowski joined the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) as Executive Director of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (DCMP) in January 2009. Mr. Nowakowski was previously employed for 27 years by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). Mr. Nowakowski began his career at SEPTA as a Project Engineer and advanced through a number of positions, including Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer, and Assistant General Manager, before becoming Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining SEPTA, Mr. Nowakowski was employed by Conrail and the Reading Railroad. Mr. Nowakowski is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and has served on and chaired committees for the Transportation Research Board, the American Public Transportation Association and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance Association. Mr. Nowakowski holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware (BS, Civil Engineering, 1975) and a graduate degree from Drexel University (MBA, 1983).Â
