“Domesticity: Women’s ‘Work’ in the Antebellum Northeast"

Sunday, Mar 23 2:00p to 4:00p
Centre Furnace Mansion State College, PA

For middle-class white women in the decades just before the Civil War, living up to new standards of morality, child-rearing, and household management was a full time job.

Join us at the Centre Furnace Mansion for a history talk by Dr. Amy Greenberg. Dr. Greenberg will discuss the rise of a new ideal of domesticity in the 1830s, and its impact on women’s lives, family relations, and the management and decor of family homes in the cities and newly created suburbs of the antebellum Northeast.
