As Jackson Pollock’s painting "Lucifer" comes to Stanford’s Anderson Collection, this exhibition explores the visual history of the Devil and his realm from the 16th to the 20th century. Paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings by artists including Albrecht Dürer and Max Beckmann reveal how the Devil evolved from the adversary of Christ to a rebellious, romantic hero.
