Women's Community Center - Stanford University

The mission of the Stanford University Women's Community Center is three-fold:

* COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

The Women's Community Center exists within an educational institution and is, consequently, charged with providing students with a quality educational experience. The WCC is committed to engaging in collaborative learning by: (a) deliberately and pro-actively supporting the learning which occurs in the classroom and (b)providing students with an out of the classroom education that is deeply rooted in student development theory.

* COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

As a community center on campus, the Women's Community Center seeks to promote the concept of community by engaging in practices which promote the idea of the common good. The WCC staff will adopt policies and procedures which support collective responsibility and democratic leadership as we will place the same value on the "how" as we do upon the "what" in the work we will accomplish.

* SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Women's Community Center is a space on the Stanford campus where needs and interests specific to female students are acknowledged and addressed. In addition to being knowledgeable about gender-relevant issues, the staff will actively strive to confront not only the sexism, but also the ableism, ethnocentrism, heterosexism, and racism which are antithetical both to our mission of promoting social justice and to the mission of the broader institution as a whole.
