The Cosmos and the Quark - Professor Mark Alford

Friday, Sep 20, 2013 7:30p

We live in an expanding universe, where mysterious "dark matter" shapes the galaxies and "dark energy" speeds up the expansion. Meanwhile, super particle accelerators probe the building blocks of matter over distances much smaller than the nucleus of a single atom. That is where quarks reside. Dr. Alford of Washington University will explain what the quarks tell us about the structure and history of the universe. Sponsored by St.Louis Astronomical Society and NASA Missouri Space Grant Consortium.
