Beethoven paid homage to his Viennes predecessor by composing a work mimicking and transcending Mozart. German pianist Lars Vogt makes his first appearance in Powell Hall in over a decade performing Beethoven's masterpiece, and Stephane Deneve leads Richard Strauss' tone poem Ein Heldenleben. The unfolding tone poem is an exuberant self-portrait applauding the artist as hero, and audiences will revel in the bright and vivid colors from one of Strauss' largest works for orchestra.
