Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse will have you whistling Dixie with their oak wood smoked BBQ and gussied up décor. Real heat seekers can attempt the lethal Mad Dog sorbet, with its mango sweetness that quickly spreads into a prickly jalapeno-spiked throat fire.

Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse is a soulful, gussied up BBQ joint for the suburban crowd. Hardwood floors and high ceilings carry the sound of sultry Blues, while a wall of exotic hot sauces, a giant screen TV, and the all-American décor stoke the atmospheric fires.

The regional BBQ menu mixes with Cajun fare, greasy pub grub, and a solid beer list of microbrews and seasonal droughts.

Appetizers included crunchy grit cakes that gave way to cushy, jalapeno flecked triangles over fiery chipotle corn gravy. Also addictive, the deep fried frickles encapsulated a hot explosion of juicy pickle spears in a brittle batter, with a tangy cool twist of ranch dressing.

Next, a Kansas City burnt ends sandwich showed little charred character, but the oaky, smoky brisket soaked in sweet BBQ sauce, all heaped onto a bulkie roll. The remarkably tender baby back ribs wore a delectable spice rub that infiltrated the piggy pork and gave it a delectable candied surface.

To finish, Phantom devoured every inch of the absurdly delicious fried Twinkies, transformed from sweet spongy torpedoes into molten hot, custardy cakes with gushing, liquefied centers.
