Sean Tyrrell, with Flynn Cohen's Deadstring Ensemble

Its hard to categorize Sean Tyrrell. He is at once singer, storyteller, commentator, poet, gadfly. His dusky voice and atmospheric, often exotic accompaniments, coupled with an always challenging repertoire, makes for a unique evening indeed. Splitting the bill, guitarist/composer Flynn Cohen leads his own band of string geniuses performing original multi-genre acoustic music. Primarily instrumental, they combine influences ranging from Irish traditional music, old-time appalachian, bluegrass, folk-rock, and early music. The band consists of some of the finest and most experienced acoustic plucked-string players in America including Matt Heaton and Danny Noveck, with singer Liz Simmons regularly stepping in.
The Burren Backroom series launched in October of 2011 but has already created many memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was created by well-known traditional musicians Tommy and Louise McCarthy in Davis Square, Somerville, Masachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
