Manual Machining Weekend Workshop

Description:
This two-day weekend workshop will cover basic machining operations; one day on the mill, and one day on the lathe.
In the Manual Milling Machine class, students will learn how to accurately lay out, clamp, drill, face, mill and more using milling machines, which are industrial manufacturing machines designed to allow precisely controlled cutting and shaping of most metals and plastics. In the Manual Lathe class, students will learn how to accurately clamp, indicate, turn, face, bore… Show more and more on lathes, which are industrial manufacturing machines designed to allow precisely controlled cutting and shaping of most round metals and plastics. Students will walk away with the ability to use these powerful standard industrial tools to create precise metal and plastic parts that fit together and into other assemblies.
Classes are capped to keep the student-to-machine ratio small, so each student will have a significant amound of hands-on practice time. This is a perfect class for those looking for an in-depth introduction to machining, or for an intensive refresher to feel comfortable again in the machine shop.
Class Goals:
By the end of each session, students will be able to use the mill or lathe safely and comfortably to make simple parts. Successful completion of this class will qualify students to use the equipment as members at Artisan's Asylum.

None.
Materials:
Practice materials will be provided by the Asylum.
Instructor Biography:
Gabe Greeley is a professional mechanical engineer working in medical technology. His interest in technology came at an early age, repairing and tinkering with bikes and go-karts. He's since made parts for his own motorcycle, cars, and dozens of other machines and tools. During his time at the Olin College of Engineering, Gabe trained other students in the use of the school's machine shop equipment.
