Butthole Surfers
Butthole Surfers Remove performer from this event
Arguably the most infamously named band in the annals of popular music -- for years, radio found their moniker unspeakable, and the press deemed it unprintable -- Butthole Surfers long reigned among the most twisted and depraved acts ever to bubble up from the American underground.
The Damned
The Damned Remove performer from this event
As punk's history enters a new millennium, the impact of the band initially judged "the least likely to" seems to grow ever more each day. The Ramones hold deserved pride of place for kick-starting the whole thing, while the Sex Pistols and to a lesser extent the Clash...
Meat Puppets
Meat Puppets Remove performer from this event
Out of all of the bands that made SST Records a towering force in the American underground during the mid-'80s, the Meat Puppets lasted the longest, surviving where other bands fell apart.
Boss Hog

All-star NYC blues-punk combo Boss Hog was helmed by the husband-and-wife team of singer Cristina Martinez and singer/guitarist Jon Spencer, who previously teamed in the legendary cult band Pussy Galore.
Melvins
Melvins Remove performer from this event
The Melvins were the first post-punk band to revel in the slow, sludgy sounds of Black Sabbath. Their music is oppressively slow and heavy, only without any of the silly mystical lyrics or the indulgent guitar solos -- it's just one massive, oozing pile of dark slime.
Isis
Isis Remove performer from this event
Isis is a monolithic, breathing, dense, incredibly spiritual musical experience that, while rooted in heavy metal and the punk/hardcore aesthetic, relies just as heavily on ambience, atmosphere, and tone as it does complexity, aggressiveness, and raw emotion.

Teenage Jesus & the Jerks
Teenage Jesus & the Jerks Remove performer from this event
The first band formed by vocalist/guitarist/provocateur Lydia Lunch, Teenage Jesus & the Jerks were the center of New York's short-lived no wave movement. Cacophonous, confrontational, and fiercely inaccessible, Teenage Jesus generally played ten- to 15-minute shows, never released...

The Dirtbombs
The Dirtbombs Remove performer from this event
One of Mick Collins' many post-Gories projects, the Dirtbombs initially seemed to exist more in concept than in reality. As if in reaction to the bass-less sound of the Gories, the Detroit-based band brought together two drummers, two bass players, and Collins on vocals and guitar.
Os Mutantes

Though rarely heard outside their Brazilian homeland (especially during their brief career), Os Mutantes were one of the most dynamic, talented, radical bands of the psychedelic era -- quite an accomplishment during a period when most every rock band spent quality time exploring...
Dälek
Dälek Remove performer from this event
Newark, NJ's Dälek undermines the simplistic gloss of mainstream hip-hop with gritty, complex underground hip-hop that at once clicks and whirs like some electronica head trip; layers on environmental ambience; and assaults the listener with aggressive, intelligent rhymes.

Kill Me Tomorrow Remove performer from this event
Kill Me Tomorrow's caustic dance-punk is at first damaging and inebriating. But there is a remarkably catchy core to the songwriting beneath the spaz-out, drilling assaults. The best description for the band's sound might be "noir wave" -- a combination of new wave pop...

Nov 15, 2007 - jeremyf on Neil Hamburger
Maybe it is just me, but I don't get it

Okay, I get that this is meant to be awful. But gah! Maybe his act should be 5 minutes, not 25. I would only recommend this performer if you absolutely want to see how to perform stupid unfunny jokes onstage. The one perk is the annoyed audience does seem to find strange joy in booing and tossing things at Neil. I guess that is why he wears such thick glasses...to protect his eyes from stray objects.
