Poetry+Motion: Woman's Work
Seattle has a relatively small African American population, so discussions about women and work tend to come from the perspectives of European American women. The Women's Movement of the 1970s presumed that women had to fight for the right to work outside the home. African American women, on the other hand, were always expected to work outside the home as well as within the home to hold together and support their families.
