Feeding struggles may include kids with feeding tubes, severe food allergies, reflux, or children with autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, or any other of the 216 diagnoses that commonly co-occur with children who struggle to chew, swallow or eat. It is estimated there… Show more are 15,000 Arizona children with feeding struggles, and more than 1 million children nationwide who struggle to eat.
Feeding Matters was founded in 2006 by Shannon Goldwater, a mother of premature triplets who all had numerous procedures and diagnoses, but above all, struggled to eat. Shannon traveled the country trying to find providers and services that would be able to help her, and met many providers who were unequipped or under-educated in feeding struggles. Shannon and other parents with children who struggled to eat then partnered to form Feeding Matters to serve as a resource and support to children with feeding struggles and their families.
Now, Feeding Matters provides 1:1 mentoring for parents of children with feeding struggles, as well as family and medical provider education and resources. Feeding Matters also facilitates a biennial conference that includes medical professionals from across the country.
