Love and Loss -- Dido and Aenaes
The tragic love story of Dido and Aeneas is based on Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid. It recounts the love story of Dido, Queen of Carthage and the Trojan hero, Aeneas, and Dido's despair at his abandonment of her. Although it was Purcell's first opera, it has become a monument of the English Baroque operatic tradition. The work will be presented as an unstaged concert production. The program will also feature Guy Whatley, harpsichord, in Bach's Harpsichord Concerto.
