Easter Vigil Jazz Mass
The tradition of holding a vigil before Easter goes back to the earliest years of Christianity. The Church of the Incarnation has updated the ancient service of movement from darkness to light with the sounds of gospel, rhythm and blues, and modern jazz, beginning with John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" and ending with Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground." Along the way, the congregation meditates on the stories of creation, liberation, and finally resurrection.
