Opening Lecture: Heritage and Theatrics: Re-picturing the Past in Costume Drama

Saturday, Dec 15, 2012 1:30p to 2:30p

Presented by guest scholar Holly Poe Durbin, Associate Professor of Drama and Head of Costume Design, UCI.

Costume design in cinema projects the images audiences wish were true, not the actual appearance of historical characters. This lecture will explore the changing shape of costume dramas, from silent era spectacles to British heritage films, and television miniseries such as Downton Abbey. An overview of the Cut, Costume and the Cinema will be included.
