Marin Symphony - Romantic Grandeur

The second program in the Marin Symphony’s 60th Season features Bay Area native and young virtuoso Nigel Armstrong offering a youthful take on Bruch’s ever-popular First Violin Concerto. The twenty-one-year-old Nigel Armstrong reached international acclaim in 2011—receiving Fourth Prize as a finalist in the 14th Tchaikovsky International Competition—and winning the Prize for Best Performance of the Commissioned Work by John Corigliano with Stomp. The program opens with Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan… Show more and Ludmilla, continues with Nigel Armstrong playing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, and closes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, “Pathétique”—a hyper-emotionally charged journey which scales the heights and plumbs the depths like few other works in the repertoire. Pre-Concert Talks begin on Sundays at 2 pm and Tuesdays at 6:30 pm, and are free for all ticket holders.
