“Gardens for a Green Earth”
The San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, the largest, world-class garden festival of its kind in the western United States enters its 27th year with a bigger, better and greener approach celebrating “Gardens for a Green Earth”, Wednesday through Sunday, March 21-25, 2012 at the San Mateo Event Center. Annie Somerville, Executive Chef of Greens restaurant, nationally renowned for her imaginative approach to vegetarian cooking; Bar Agricole Chef Brandon Jew; Melanie Eisemann of Avedano’s and Martin Yan of “Yan Can Cook” will be on hand with other Bay Area celebrity Chefs to do cooking demonstrations encouraging sustainable, local, garden to table ingredients.
Star Gardens is back this year to show innovations in edible gardening with a large display of mixed edible and ornamental plants and Joe Lamp’l of “Growing a Greener World” give us tips on garden design and environmental growing.
And there’s an expanded Wine Garden with tastings put on by Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association.
There’s five days of seminars and book signings by top experts on a range of topics - flower arranging, design trends, water conservation, cutting edge growing walls, foraging experts, and talks on growing the best tomatoes, raising chickens, beer and jam making. A Marketplace with over 200 vendors selling plants, seeds, art, unique tools and fabulous green gift items, plus a special Children’s Garden called Sproutopia with hands-on learning opportunities, and spectacular art make this a fun family activity.
Tickets for a single day admission are $20. A multi-day pass is $25, and children 16 and under are admitted FREE.
