Mar 17, 2008 - YogiBear on Slanted Door
Very Hip Vietnamese Restaurant with a Breathtaking View of the Bay Bridge!

I've heard a lot of good things about The Slanted Door, so I was very much looking forward to having lunch there with a friend this past weekend. Mistake #1 -- make a reservation. The place was packed! They actually said that they didn't even accept walk-ins, but could seat people at the bar. I wasn't too keen about sitting at the bar since it was a bit overcrowded, but then the host said that there would be a table opening and that he wasn't ordinarily allowed to seat people, but would make an exception. Uh, okay -- 20 minutes later, we were seated at the very back of the restaurant at a dining table with 2 other couples -- it was a very odd set-up and initially kind of uncomfortable. The service was a little slow, but I guess understandable because of the lunch time rush hour. The food, however, was VERY VERY good! Super tasty, flavorful and healthy seeming. I'd like to go there for dinner, which seems especially romantic because of the illuminated Bay Bridge by night. The restaurant is a bit pricey, so prepare to open your wallet. Lunch for the two of us was $64.
