Belmont Lights
Belmont Lights
Belmont Lights is an Alt/Pop/Rock band from San Diego, CA. After 2 years of playing shows throughout the west coast, and releasing two EPs (Soon Enough 2010 & Sparrow 2011) under the name, The Pennant, the band gained attention from industry professionals who advised them that a name change would be best for a mainstream appeal....
Easy Star All-Stars
Easy Star All-Stars
The accomplished reggae musicians in New York City's Easy Star All-Stars (including Victor Axelrod, aka "Ticklah," who also plays keyboards in the Afro-beat band Antibalas) have created high-concept entertainment that transcends gimmick through the sheer power of the music....
Andre Nickatina
Andre Nickatina
With a penchant for old-school rhymes and lo-fi beats, Andre Nickatina hails from the West Coast. He released Cocaine Raps and Raven in My Eyes simultaneously on the Dogday imprint, but it was the trilogy of 1999's Tears of a Clown and 2000's These R the Tales and Daiquiri Factory Cocaine Raps that put Nickatina on the West Coast circuit....
The Orwells
The Orwells
For The Orwells, Remember When will be an introduction of sorts-the 12-track rat-race shows the band's repertoire of pranging riffs and sneering, snot-nosed vocals. The tracks are a walloping war-cry from a generation that up until this point has only offered bubblegum pop-the animus of The Orwells....

Great venue for live music

Slims is my favorite venue in San Francisco to see a band live. It's not too big. It's not too small. The sound system is good. The price is never too high to get in. And I've seen some pretty amazing bands here over the years, before they got so big they had to play HUGE venues to accommodate everyone who wanted to see them. If I could choose one setting to see a band I loved, it would be to see them headlining at Slims.

And PS: The Slims "Rock and Roll is not a crime" shirt is my favorite t-shirt I own! I'm just saying...

Great sound, unfriendly staff

Slim's has a great location and space -- and the sound system is very good -- but the staff has all the warmth of professional prison guards. The fun begins with being heavily frisked at the door, and continues as you are forced to buy drinks if you want to sit down. Immediately after the music stops, the staff shows their first real enthusiasm as they herd you out the door as quickly as possible. Visit this place only if you love the band.
