Kylesa
Kylesa is, fundamentally, a metal group, but the Savannah, GA-based outfit is otherwise difficult to categorize: elements of hardcore punk, psychedelic stoner rock, technical speed metal, and good old-fashioned Black Sabbath sludge appear in their music....

The Hit Men
The 60s, 70s and 80s were a golden era for songwriting, and during this period, artists like Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Tommy James and the Shondells, and many other big name chart-busting groups created beloved hits that have been heard for generations and are woven into America’s consciousness....

Foxtails Brigade

Harry & The Hit Men
Harry & the Hit Men serve up classic Motown and Soul with jovial professionalism. But don't let the "suits" fool you, the band comes from an improvised rock tradition, and has years of experimentation behind their tight arrangements....

Finch
Considered by many to be one of the more overlooked progressive rock groups, Finch were a Dutch instrumental band that recorded three albums in the 1970s. The group consisted of guitarist Joop Van Nimwegen, keyboardist Paul Vink, Peter Vink (bass), and Beer Klaasse (drums)....

Free Energy
Free Energy formed in the aftermath of the Minneapolis-based indie rock group Hockey Night's tumultuous breakup in 2007. The band coalesced in the two years following the split, when former Hockey Night members Scott Wells and Paul Sprangers relocated to Philadelphia, teamed up with Geoff Bucknum, Nicholas Shuminsky, and Evan Wells, and made a batch of freewheeling indie rock tunes in the vein of glam and arena rock acts like Thin Lizzy and T....

Nekromantix
Nekromantix counts as one of the wilder bands working in psychobilly. Kim Nekroman (bass, vocals) quit an eight-year career as a submarine operator in the Royal Danish Navy to found the band in 1989; Peter Sandorff (guitar, vocals) and Kristian Sandorff (drums) joined him in the trio soon after....

Arnocorps
It should come as no surprise that the pioneers of Action-Adventure Hardcore Rock and Roll claim to be The Greatest Band of All Time. Since their 2001 arrival in the burgeoning San Francisco Bay Area music scene, ArnoCorps has paved a steady, disciplined and often destructive path to ensure that all those who bear witness to their live Action Adventure Audio Assault agree with their ballsy assertion....

Slims is my favorite venue in San Francisco to see a band live. It's not too big. It's not too small. The sound system is good. The price is never too high to get in. And I've seen some pretty amazing bands here over the years, before they got so big they had to play HUGE venues to accommodate everyone who wanted to see them. If I could choose one setting to see a band I loved, it would be to see them headlining at Slims.
And PS: The Slims "Rock and Roll is not a crime" shirt is my favorite t-shirt I own! I'm just saying...

Slim's has a great location and space -- and the sound system is very good -- but the staff has all the warmth of professional prison guards. The fun begins with being heavily frisked at the door, and continues as you are forced to buy drinks if you want to sit down. Immediately after the music stops, the staff shows their first real enthusiasm as they herd you out the door as quickly as possible. Visit this place only if you love the band.
