Katie Crutchfield is a natural at writing confessional pop songs. Since picking up the guitar as a teenager she has spent the better part of her young adult life travelling the country to play basement shows for feminist punks with bands like P.S. Eliot, Bad Banana and The Ackleys, all of which she sang for. Joyride was a punk-pop offshoot of Orange County hardcore pioneers the Adolescents, forming after the 1989 dissolution of that band's mid-'80s reunion lineup. Bassist/vocalist Steve Soto and drummer Sandy Hansen -- the former a charter Adolescent, the latter a reunion-only player -- teamed up with guitarist/co-lead vocalist Greg Antista and guitarist Mike McKnight....
Named after the lake not far from her parent's house in Alabama, Waxahatchee is the name of D.I.Y. songwriter Katie Crutchfield's band, which began in 2011 as a solo project, appearing first in the form of a split cassette with Chris Calvin....
