Humanities West opens its 30th Anniversary Season with Verdi’s Masterwork: Opera and the Birth of Modern Italy, a two-day program of lectures, discussions, and musical performances celebrating 19th-Century Italy and the operatic genius of Giuseppe Verdi, a talent that symbolized an emerging nation’s vital spirit. The panel includes speakers from San Francisco Opera, Stanford and UC Berkeley, with performances by sopranos Hope Briggs & Cheryl Cain, tenor Chris Coyne and Ron Valentino on piano.
