German saxophonist and clarinetist Peter Brotzmann has been a key figure in the free jazz scene since the 1960s. In 1968 he released the free jazz classic MACHINE GUN. The aggressive sonic assault heard on MACHINE GUN has remained a cornerstone of Brotzmann’s approach in the decades following, particularly in his free improvisations, which include raw, guttural sounds and high-pitched squeals in the manner of Albert Ayler....
