The Once and Future Kepler Mission: Hot On the Trail of Habitable Earth-size Planets

Monday, Jul 15, 2013 7:30p

Kepler vaulted to the heavens on March 7, 2009, starting NASA’s search for Earth-size planets orbiting Sun-like stars in the habitable zone. Four years later, a flood of data on upward of 190,000 stars has provoked a flood of more than 132 validated planets, over 2,700 planetary candidates and a revolution in our understanding of the behavior of stars. Dr. Jenkins will highlight key results from Kepler, and give a brief overview of TESS, NASA’s next mission to detect Earth’s closest cousins.
