SFAI's Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series with artist Linda Besemer

Monday, Apr 8, 2013 7:30p
San Francisco Art Institute San Francisco, CA

Without canvas or traditional support, Linda Besemer explores the plasticity and physicality of painting. Spilling from aluminum rods and cleats affixed to gallery walls are dried sheets of two-sided patterned acrylic paint. Referencing critical theory, feminism, minimalism, decoration, and finish fetish, her paintings question the forms and underlying signifying practices of modernism, abstraction, and two-dimensional illusion. Advance registration recommended.
